Junior BEMS Commissioning Engineer Job Description.
About the Role: In this role, you independently commission defined BMS packages to Imperium standards. You configure controllers and front-ends (Trend IQVision and Tridium Niagara 4.15), prove performance through functional tests and trend data, and deliver complete, traceable evidence for handover. Your work improves reliability, comfort, and energy outcomes while reducing rework.
Project Specific Responsibilities
- You will deliver end-to-end commissioning for allocated systems (for example, an air handling unit or a plantroom loop), producing a complete Site Acceptance Test section with clean evidence and sign-offs.
- You will configure and prove front-end and controller logic in IQVision and Niagara to Imperium naming and unit conventions, with alarms, schedules, trends, graphics, and verified backups.
- You will test and document communications / network segments (Internet Protocol and serial field bus), resolving addressing and termination issues and issuing a testing documentation.
- You will execute functional testing and initial tuning, demonstrating stable control (for example, supply air temperature or central heating flow temperature) with before/after trend evidence.
- You will keep documentation aligned with reality, updating points lists, cable schedules, redlines, and the Description of Operations as commissioning proceeds.
- You will plan and run inspection and testing for your scope, closing non-conformance reports quickly and integrating results into the operation and maintenance pack.
- You will engage stakeholders for your package, capture acceptance criteria (schedules, user journeys, access levels), and run witness tests to confirm outcomes.
Duties
- Build, back up, and restore a small Niagara 4.15 station and a Trend IQVision package; apply Imperium naming and unit conventions; configure alarms, schedules, histories, and graphics.
- Commission one controller ring or trunk; fix duplicate identifiers and termination issues; set and verify time synchronisation; attach screenshots or logs as evidence.
- Run point-to-point and functional tests; verify interlocks and safeties; tune simple proportional–integral–derivative loops with recorded parameters and trend plots.
- Install and terminate small cable runs to drawings; verify separation between separated extra-low voltage and low voltage; complete insulation resistance and continuity records.
- Maintain a concise requirements traceability matrix for your scope linking stakeholder need → Description of Operations or graphics → test case → evidence.
- Compile a complete Site Acceptance Test section for your package, including photographs, readings with units, backups, and witness signatures.
General Responsibilities
- Keep abreast of industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
- Maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct, adhering to the Engineering Council’s ethical principles.
