BEMS Commissioning Engineer Job Description.

About the Role: As a Commissioning Engineer at Imperium Building Systems, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring our technical systems are accurately tested, verified, and commissioned. You'll work closely on-site with project managers, principal engineers, and our electrical installation teams, ensuring every project meets our high standards from initial testing through final handover.

Project Specific Responsibilities

  • Review and familiarise yourself with project designs, operations descriptions, network topology, and control panel documentation upon assignment.
  • Assist principal engineers with software creation and development when necessary.
  • Attend initial site visits alongside project management to understand the specific system requirements and installation.
  • Supervise and carry out electrical testing, verification, and pre-commissioning, ensuring all documentation is accurately completed and installations meet Imperium's high standards.
  • Perform approved control panel modifications as instructed, ensuring documentation is updated promptly.
  • Ensure correct labelling and identification of all system components and cables throughout installation.
  • Address any safety or quality concerns immediately with project managers and principal engineers; cease activities if necessary for safety.
  • Power up control panels systematically, testing each circuit methodically.
  • Set up and thoroughly test network systems including TCP/IP and serial devices, verifying configurations match design specifications.
  • Conduct meticulous testing of all safety interlocks and operational functions.
  • Connect and verify functionality of all field devices, sensors, and actuators, ensuring accurate system responses.
  • Programme and set up digital field devices such as inverters, digital sensors, and display equipment.
  • Perform detailed functional checks against operational descriptions, adjusting and optimising system strategies as required, alongside the principal engineer.
  • Tune systems for efficient operation (PID loops, switching bands), ensuring systems perform optimally during environmental commissioning stages.
  • Collaborate with principal engineers on third-party systems integration.
  • Maintain regular system backups, documentation, and complete Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), ensuring thorough record-keeping for project completion.

General Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in training junior team members and developing educational materials for the Imperium Academy.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
  • Maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct, adhering to the Engineering Council’s ethical principles.
